April 17-20 in West Park, NY: I’m leading a retreat called Mapping Your Journey of Faith: Guidance from C. S. Lewis, Teresa of Avila, and the ancient Celts at Holy Cross Monastery in West Park, NY — on the beautiful Hudson River. Holy Cross Monastery in West Park, NY is rapidly becoming one of my favorite places to lead (or make) a retreat. I’m so happy to be returning to Holy Cross this April to direct a retreat built around the theme of pilgrimage, drawing on the wisdom of the ancient Celts, Teresa of Ávila, and C. S. Lewis. April 22 in Manhattan: At the New York Open Center, I’m leading a program called Be Still and Know: Reclaiming the Lost Art of Christian Contemplation and Meditation. This program is part of a year-long “Meditation and Contemplative Studies Certificate Training” at the New York Open Center — an interfaith/interspiritual approach to learning the basics of meditation and contemplation from across all the world’s great faith traditions. I’m honored to be one of two Christian teachers participating in this program — and the best part is, you can register for each workshop on a stand-alone basis, so you don’t have to sign up for the entire certification program to participate in the workshop! I’ll be introducing the class to the foundational practices of Christian contemplation rooted in the Desert Mothers and Fathers and the wisdom of figures like Evagrius and John Cassian — but also drawing from medieval sources like The Cloud of Unknowing as well as some of the best contemporary Christian wisdom teachers.
