This is my immediate, off the cuff reply to Deacon Jim’s article. My full, and better response is here.

Okay, you posted your latest to the com-box in my last piece. It includes the following paragraph.

Learn that if you have no intention of even trying to understand what I mean by the words I choose, then STOP READING.

Here’s another simple one—if all you’re planning to do after reading my essay is tell me what I’m “really trying to say,” then, for the love of God and all that is holy, just stop reading. Just stop. Unless and until you choose to seek understanding, you actually have no right to comment on what I’ve written.

I agree with this wholeheartedly. If you insist on telling us what it is that we mean when we say gay — that you know better than us what we’re really saying — then please stop reading. Just stop. If you read Joe Prever’s tweets without trying to understand what their context is, you actually have no right to comment on what he’s written.

Please, please, please, for the love of God and all that is holy, Just Stop Reading!
