CBB Media Review – Exploring the Early Church Fathers

CBB Media Review – Exploring the Early Church Fathers September 7, 2015

exploring_the_early_church_fathers_spotlightEarly on in my time as a reviewer I became very interested in reading about the Church Fathers. Books have been my primary source of information including ones written by Mike Aquilina and Jimmy Akin. Recently I stumbled upon a magnificent 5 CD set on the topic from Saint Joseph Cummunications. The title of the set is Exploring the Early Church Fathers and is from a talk given by Dr. Michael Barber. If you have any interest in patristics this is a CD set you will want to give a listen to.

I could tell immediately upon listening to disc one that was going to be a great set. Michael’s admiration for and knowledge of the early church fathers was evident early on. This was a topic he was interested in and you can tell he thoroughly enjoys sharing his knowledge of it. Irenaeus, St. Ignatius of Antioch, St. Justin Martyr, Jerome, Polycarp, Clement…they all make an appearance in these talks as some point. Their stories are a part of history. They are a part of the foundation of our faith. A point that Michael emphasizes again and again as he talks about the church fathers and their direct link to the Apostles.

This 5-CD set will not disappoint. Even if you do not have an existing interest in the early church fathers you should take the time to listen to this set. The foundation of the Catholic faith was laid by the Apostles as they went out and spread the Good News as instructed to do by Christ. The early church fathers are a good place to start to strengthen your own faith journey. Michael Barber has provided a significant resource in accomplishing that.

From the publisher’s website:

Who were the early Church Fathers? Why are they responsible for so many conversions to the Catholic Church today? In this unprecedented presentation on the early Church Fathers, Dr. Michael Barber masterfully explains the importance of their writings to better understand Sacred Scripture and Tradition.

Many of the Fathers, such as Polycarp and Clement, were contemporaries to the Apostles. In addition, men such as Irenaeus, who was a disciple of Polycarp, explicitly wrote about the significance of Tradition and the authority of the Roman See, and how every church should agree with Holy Mother Church due to her preeminence.

Let Dr. Barber acquaint (or reacquaint) you with your spiritual elders of Christ’s one, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church, and learn how to share their wisdom with those who are exploring and/or are skeptical of the Faith.
