We are under Mary’s protection, Mary: Day 055 September 14, 2015

St. Ephraem the Syrian marvels at the unparalleled dignity of Mary, and the power God has given her on our behalf.

O immaculate and entirely-pure Virgin Mary, Mother of God, Queen of the Universe, our own good Lady! You are above all the saints, the only hope of the patriarchs, and the joy of the saints. Through you we have been recon- ciled with our God.

You are the only advocate of sinners, and the secure haven of those who are sailing on the sea of this life. You are the consolation of the world, the ransom of captives, the joy of the sick, the comfort of the afflicted, the refuge, the salvation of the whole world. O great princess, Mother of God, cover us with the wings of your mercy, and pity us.

No other hope but you is given us, most pure Virgin. We are given to you, and consecrated to your service; we bear the name of your servants. Don’t allow Lucifer to drag us to hell. Immaculate Virgin, we are under your protection, and therefore we turn to you alone.

I salute you, O peace, O joy, O consolation of the whole world. I salute you, O greatest of miracles, O paradise of delights, secure haven of those who are in danger, fountain of graces, mediatrix of peace between God and men, mother of Jesus our Lord, who is the love of all men and of God, to whom be honor and blessing with the Father and the Holy Spirit. —St. Ephraem the Syrian

IN GOD’S PRESENCE, CONSIDER . . .
God has given Mary a share in his own power—a greater share than he’s given all the other saints. When I’m in physical or spiritual danger, do I ask for her protection?

CLOSING PRAYER
From a prayer of St. Ephraem the Syrian: Virgin, you who are full of grace, enlighten my understanding, loosen my tongue, that it may sing your praises and especially the angel’s greeting, so worthy of you.
