a_mothers_words_of_wisdom_spotlightPerhaps one of the most recognizable Catholic personalities of our time is Mother Angelica. Saint Joseph Communications has produced a three CD set of Mother’s talks entitled A Mother’s Words of Wisdom. If you enjoy watching Mother Angelica on EWTN than you will certainly enjoy this set.

The talks were originally presented at the Oakland Catholic Family Conference in 1998. The amazing thing I find with Mother Angelica is that no matter what the topic, and when she discussed it, her talks are never outdated.  Mother Angelica covers a wide ranging topics on these three CDs.

She teaches on the Trinity. The family we are is to be the image of the trinity, the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Every person has a memory that creates (in the image of the Father), an intellect (made to the image of Jesus), and a will (made in the image of the Holy Spirit). When we die we have to return those three faculties or gifts back.

She covers sin and teaches us that a confessed sin is a forgotten sin. Once confessed, no matter how severe, our Lord forgets the sin for he is merciful and compassionate.

Using the story of the Wedding Feast of Cana, Mother focuses on Mary’s command “Do whatever he tells you”. Today we do anything and everything everyone tells us but what God tells us. Mother suggest we make Mary’s statement a motto for our lives. Do what HE tells you.

Mother tells a humorous tale of her time at the beach when the Lord spoke to her about a drop of water that fell on hand. He told her that the drop was all her sins and weaknesses and that the ocean was his mercy. If you looked and looked in the ocean of mercy would you find that drop?

She also tells us that Jesus loves each of us with an infinite love. This is something Mother wished the sisters would have told her growing up. That may seem surprising but set against the backdrop of Mother’s youth you come to understand why. Her parents divorced, she was poor, school was difficult, and her only concern in life was survival. In addition to telling listeners about her youth she spends a good portion of the first CD talking about her miraculous healing,

Mother Angelica imparts her wisdom through the many trials of her own life in this powerful CD set. One of the things I love about listening to Mother, and I am sure others share this same sentiment, is how she sprinkle humor throughout the talks. She makes the story she is telling personal and captivating. This set contains a Mother’s wisdom that should be heard by all.

From the Publisher:

With tremendous love and compassion, Mother Angelica, foundress of the EWTN television network, challenges Catholic families to be the light of the world with her personal witness to the reality of God’s love and healing power.

In this exciting and riveting series, Mother Angelica addresses hundreds of Catholic families with a message of hope and love at the Oakland Catholic family conference. With tremendous love and compassion, Mother challenged Catholic families to be a light to the world and to trust in God.

Mother accented this challenge with her personal testimony of how God recently healed her from some 40 years of dependence on crutches and braces to walk. Her always powerful witness to the reality and love of God is truly moving and encouraging.
