St. Germanus cries out in confidence to the pure and powerful mother who can answer his prayers and keep him in safety.
My Lady!
My refuge, life, and help, my armor and my boast, my hope and my strength: Grant that I may enjoy the gifts of your Son,
unspeakable, beyond understanding, your God and our God,
in the heavenly kingdom.
For I know with certainty
that you have power to do as you will, since you are mother of the Most High.
Therefore, Lady most pure, I beg you
that I may not be disappointed in my hopes, but may obtain them, Spouse of God,
who bore the One who is the hope of all, our Lord Jesus Christ,
true God and Master of all things, visible and invisible,
to whom belongs all glory, honor, and power, now and always and through endless ages.
—St. Germanus
IN GOD’S PRESENCE, CONSIDER . . .
St. Germanus expresses his firm faith in Mary’s power and willingness to help him. But as the prayer concludes, in whom, does he affirm, is his faith ultimately placed, who makes her loving assistance possible?
CLOSING PRAYER
From a prayer of St. Alphonsus Liguori: You are the Refuge of Sinners, so you are my refuge. To you I entrust my soul and my eternal salvation. Receive me as your servant, and as your servant protect me always, and especially at the time of my death. You with your power- ful intercession must save me!
