Advent can serve as a season of reflection and enrichment for us all. However, we must focus on “the reason for the season” to do that and not get swept up in the secular hustle and bustle of the world around us. To do that there are a number of resources available and Ave Maria Press has recently released one such resource. Daily Devotions for Advent 2014 (The Living Gospel)
is the newest addition to their Living Gospel series. Father Scott Hurd is the author who guides us on an Advent journey that leads us to a fuller appreciation of the season.
Each of the books daily devotions are bite-sized chunks of wisdom for the day. From the introduction – “Each devotion has six simple steps: (1) an invitation to be still and silent, (2) a prayer to focus you on God, (3) a selection form the gospel reading appointed for Mass that day, (4) a brief meditation to help break open God’s Word, (5) a suggested action to help translate devotion into spiritual growth, (6) a final prayer to draw you into deeper intimacy with God.” These six steps combined and used as a devotional to start your day will surely lead you down the path of a more spiritual view of the season.
Father Scott Hurd is our leader in devotions this Advent and he provides a resource that is simple to use. Take a mere five minutes per day and spend them with this book. This Advent amid all the hustle and bustle of the holiday season treat yourself to a gift for your spiritual growth. You will not be disappointed.
