I just read a lovely piece that I thought I would share my thoughts on about Christians making video games. Our own Richard Clark and Drew Dixon got interviewed for that article, and I think they made some salient observations. Indeed, I enjoyed the entire thing. I hope you’ll take a moment to read it. I’m going to start this by being a little bit pedantic. Technically, we cannot have a Christian video game because video games cannot be Christians.... Read more

In an act of shameless self promotion, I’m going to share the link to a list of my favorite Christmas books for kids . Some sacred, some secular, each one offers a delightful read for families this Christmas season. I love the way each one, whether focusing on the Nativity or the Grinch or the Nutcracker or Scrooge, focuses on the way that the magic of this season can transform us, if only we will let it. I hope you enjoy... Read more

In this week’s The New Yorker, Louis Menard writes about the French president’s efforts to eradicate homework. The move comes, Menard writes, from the argument “that homework gives children whose parents are able to help them with it—more educated and affluent parents, presumably—an advantage over children whose parents are not. The President wants to give everyone an equal chance.” The logic, as Menard explains, is based on the premise that wealthier and more educated parents give their children an... Read more

Each week in The Moviegoer, Nick Olson examines new and upcoming films. My family has a wonderful Christmas tradition. We love to go see a movie together during the week before Christmas. Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy became a three year fixture of this tradition. So it was a given that the family planned to make The Hobbit this year’s Christmas outing to the theater. Out of loyalty to this tradition, I’ve avoided seeing The Hobbit until we go... Read more

Have you ever wondered what Christianity might look like if it could rise above political maneuvering and military power plays and corruptible influences? One way to explore that is through gaming that allows players to develop their own worlds and test out the weight and impact of decisions and actions across multiple nations and lands. CaPC’s very own Richard Clark writes about this for a ChristianityToday.com article titled “Gods of Power and Might: What Civilization V Gets Right (And Wrong)... Read more

What do I want more, to see Westboro humiliated and receiving their (richly deserved) comeuppance? Or to see them repenting of their hatred and becoming a true church that displays the love and grace of Christ? Read more

I have a son who is eight years old, and my daughter will be five in April. As the images of the children who lost their lives began to pop up on the internet yesterday, it was all too easy to see my own children in their place. I do not think I am alone in this. As I write this, it is eight days until Christmas. Most of the presents we have bought for our children are already wrapped... Read more
