I Don’t Feel Sorry for the Christian Right

Here’s how it works peeps. The oppressor (in this case Conservative Christianity) for the past three and a half decades here in America have been hounding and persecuting and in some cases encouraging the death and violation of marginalized peoples. Three and one-half decades since the Moral Majority morphed into The Contract for America and then again into the Millennial Bush/Coulter/Limbaugh/Hannity/Piper/Driscoll/K Street lobby/Huckabee/Romney/Warren/etc group.

Now their reign of terror is coming to an end. Their leaders are falling from pedestals faster than ever. Their churches and mega-ministries are shrinking, their influence is waning. And they are hurt, and they are angry.

Do not let their crocodile tears fool you. They were only ever interested in power and now that they are losing their grip on it, they are crying like babies in a doctor’s office. They claim they are being persecuted for their beliefs. How odd that for thirty-five years they did the persecuting, now that the cultural tables are turned they have turned into exactly that which they previously mocked and spurned.

These conservative Christians are not being persecuted for following Jesus. They would first have to follow Jesus in order to be persecuted for that. No. They are watching their theory of inspiration crash and burn and die a slow agonizing death, their claims of certainty have hit an iceberg and all they can do is rearrange hermeneutics on the deck of the sinking ship.

I do not for one second feel sorry for them. I have watched them destroy my country. Now I will pray that the ensuing cognitive dissonance that is coming like a mega-tsunami toward them will wash their hearts and minds of holiness codes and sacrificial hermeneutics. I hope they don’t lose faith. Some of them may end up on this page.

Care for them as people? Yes I will? Feel sorry for them for their loss of power? Not one bit.
