Creating the Perfect Space for a Bible Study

Creating the Perfect Space for a Bible Study August 6, 2021

Bible study is a great way to connect with God while practicing your faith. Coming together with other Christians makes the experience more enjoyable. However, it can be challenging to find the right place for worship.

With that in mind, here are some tips to help you create the perfect bible study space.

1. Choose the Right Area

There are multiple places you can hold the gathering. Consider using an extra bedroom, garage, or even an open spot in your living room. Whichever area you choose, make sure it allows for privacy, so you can be fully present in the discussion. If there are still outside sounds consider purchasing a white noise machine to limit distractions. Also, if you have pets consider putting them in their crate.

If you don’t want to have the bible study at home, try going to a local coffee shop or park.

2. Decorate With the Basics

You probably have your own style preferences, but ensure you have the following basic elements:

  • A medium-sized table: This can provide space for people to place their bibles and laptops.
  • A comfortable atmosphere: You want your guests to feel cozy when reciting bible verses. So, add some supportive chairs and cushions for them to sit on.
  • Excellent lighting: You need to make sure people can see what they’re reading and writing. Try to find a space with windows to bring in more natural light.
  • A convenient location: Find a spot where members don’t have to travel too far. This can also inspire you to engage in personal sessions more often.
  • Have everything at arms each: Ensure the bibles, notebooks, and paper are easy to reach from a sitting position. This reduces the need to get up, allowing you to focus on understanding God’s message.

3.  Add Some Plants

Plants can be a great way to add some decor to your space. They can provide a simple pop of color. Also, adding plants can create an outdoor atmosphere making you feel more relaxed. This calming presence is perfect when reflecting on the words of the Lord.

When choosing a plant for your area, find ones that are easy to care for. Consider things like how much watering they will need. Also, be sure to match the vegetation with the environment. For example, some plants need more light to grow. Consider decorating with hibiscus flowers to add vibrance and beauty to your area.

4. Go for a More Unconventional Space

Your bible study space doesn’t have to be a traditional office setup. Conducting a bible study in your bed is a fun and unconventional idea. This can provide you with a comfortable place for reflection. To make the space cozier consider adding candles, soft blankets, and lamps.

While your bed provides you with comfort, it may make you feel less focused. To keep you engaged in the words of the Lord, turn off all your electronic devices.

Here are some more tips for a meaningful study session:

  • Pray before you begin
  • Write things down
  • Read out loud
  • Teach what you read to others
  • Pick your peak focus time

5.  Remove Clutter From Your Space

To help focus better, you want an area free of any distractions. You also want a room others can easily move around in. To clear your clutter, take everything off the ground and unplug any cords. Get rid of anything that is not important to the space. This may include old papers or bags lying around.

Here are some tips to help you declutter your space:

  • Determine if the item is worth your time and effort to store
  • Ask yourself if it’s your favorite item
  • Consider if the object serves a purpose
  • Evaluate if the item makes you happy
  • Keep a box in your closet

6.  Paint the Walls White

White is a neutral color helping you tune into your thoughts. The neutral hue also creates a feeling of calm, perfect for silent moments of prayer. Brightly colored walls may be more distracting, diverting attention from the meaningful discussion. If you have a smaller space, white tones can make the area feel larger.

Having white walls also makes it easy to decorate with your favorite bible verses. Consider inspirational verses, such as Deuteronomy 31:6, about not being afraid. Also, since proper lighting is key, the soft tones reflect the light and brighten up your space.

7.  Have a Basket of Essential Materials

You want to have a basket holding all the supplies you’ll use during the session. It can store bibles, highlighters, notebooks, and pens. Writing down your thoughts is a great way to process the session. Also, consider writing down any questions to help further the discussion.
