A gathering of Taurus energy

A gathering of Taurus energy

There’s a new moon, or dark moon in Taurus today – the perfect time to start a new column! The Sun and Moon meet in Taurus – but they are not alone. There’s a whole gathering of planets (including the North Node, which is technically a point in space). Jupiter, Mercury, and Uranus are there too, so Taurus energy is especially intense today and in the coming days. It’s a Taurus party! So it will inevitably involve plenty of good food, maybe a picnic in a beautiful meadow. A lazy afternoon amongst the flowers with our bare feet firmly planted on the earth.

Who’s coming?

So who might we meet at a Taurus party? Taurus is the sign of the bull, of course. Renowned astrologer, Liz Greene refers to Ferdinand the Bull as a Taurean character, a bull who prefers to lie around amongst the flowers, avoiding the bullfight but sparking into life when he accidentally lies on a bee. Sometimes placid Taurus energy needs a sneaky bee to get it moving, but Uranus and Mercury will help us there.

Escaping the labyrinth

As well as Ferdinand and his friends, there are some figures from mythology who might show up at our Taurus party. The bull has long been a symbol of the fertility of the earth, a worthy sacrifice to the gods. King Minos offered a pure white bull to Poseidon in exchange for mastery over the seas but famously, wasn’t quite ready to let go of his prized bull. Not letting go, there’s some Taurus energy right there. And we all know how it went down, Poseidon’s revenge and the minotaur who was the result of that revenge. Taurus is the sign of fixed earth, creative manifestation is practically a given here. And the minotaur is left in his labyrinth, our animal instincts imprisoned by our earthly desires. If we give him his due and accept those animal instincts, he can be a guest of honor at our Taurus party. He might eat all the food, start some raucous games, or even offer us a guided tour of his labyrinth.

The forge of the gods

Venus is sure to be at our party, as ruler of Taurus, and she’s currently the perfect hostess as she travels through caring Cancer. If we’re lucky, she will also bring her husband, the smith Hephaestus. They may not always have got along, but Hephaestus is a powerful figure. He created Mercury’s winged helmet and sandals, Pluto’s helmet of invisibility, and even the thunderbolts of Zeus. All of the gods owe him something because he gives them the means to embody their power. He is an archetype of power taking form, of passion and energy transformed into tangible reality in a way that can change our world.

So if we want to work with this strong Taurus energy in our magical practice, it might just be worth offering Hephaestus a beer or a party snack and asking for a little help or guidance in manifesting our desires.
