Yeah, I do too.  Remember when we heard it was bad that the president said it was wrong to spend billions of dollars on a single plane?  Yeah, I do too.  That’s what’s great about modern values.  If you don’t like a certain standard or principle, just wait a few. Read more

For a demographic that is hardly the majority in America, it accounts for a whopping 35% of US abortions.  Funny how that makes so little difference in our modern discourse about the plight of African Americans.  Cosmic coincidence no doubt. The takeaway bit of true horror is, sadly, this: The CDC also documented 1.3 percent of reported abortions — roughly 13,000 abortions — were late term on potentially viable babies beyond 20 weeks’ gestation. When Jesus said suffer little children,... Read more

Protesting is patriotism and obstructionism a virtue.  For the last 8 years, protesters against the president were assumed to be racist, and any opposition to the president was putting partisanship over the needs of the American people. Why is it that when progressives are in the minority, America just feels more like America is supposed to feel?  I’m not sure.  I got the same feeling in 2000.  There’s a trend there, I’m just not sure what it is. Read more

Here.  CNN producer caught yucking it up when someone jokes about Trump’s plane crash.   CNN has responded with ‘discipline’, though I don’t know what.  I caught it on a Facebook page.  Strangely, it isn’t getting coverage like some of the digs made at Obama over the years.   In fact, I gave up trying to find MSM coverage of this.  Only CNN, in posting its apology, has shown up. Which is interesting.  Now, the point isn’t if it was wrong... Read more

Yeah.  50.   To quote Alec Guinness from the classic The Bridge on the River Kwai: There are times when suddenly you realize you’re nearer the end than the beginning. And you wonder, you ask yourself, what the sum total of your life represents. What difference your being there at any time made to anything. Hardly made any difference at all, really, particularly in comparison with other men’s careers. I don’t know whether that kind of thinking’s very healthy, but... Read more

According to Ross Douthat.  When you see this being said, as pope you respond and clarify.  You don’t judge and evade.  This is important stuff.  As is all in our faith. For those who need no help because they’ve got this, congrats.  Others need help.  And that’s a minister’s job. Read more

Donald Trump is the president the Facebook generation deserves.   That’s what my boys said.  And they’re right. We’re not a polite society.  We’re not a nice society.  We’re not a society with manners.  We certainly don’t seem to have an idea about ‘the common good.’  We seem happy with whatever is done or said as long as our side comes out on top. So one the channels we have shows old shows.  Not the usual shows you see in... Read more

Not really.  The Ted Cruz of the Democratic party reminds us that just as dissent will once again become a show of patriotism (as opposed to hate and racism), so obstruction and opposition will now become political virtues, as opposed to putting partisan agendas ahead of the American people.  I know, I know. If only those on the Left would find a principle and stick with it. But that’s politics for you.  It isn’t as if there’s only one side... Read more

The always interesting Sick Pilgrim on Patheos has a different take on a favorite Christmas pastime, courtesy of European folklore.  It looks like a good time, so go over there and read through the fun.  Leave it to Europe to have a goat-demon come by and punish bad kids who don’t deserve gifts from St. Nick.  But then Christmas was never supposed to be about fuzzy reindeer and cute little snowmen.  It can be brutal, if you read the source material.... Read more
