Muslims across France attend Mass in solidarity with Catholics over the priest who was slain by an Islamic terrorist. Good for them.  Not that most people who want to focus on Islamic terrorists are foolish enough to think that all Muslims are terrorists.  But on the off chance that there are some, this story should go a long way toward disproving that theory. Read more

At least sixteen died in a hot air balloon accident.  These stories always seem to add a touch of sadness, as the people were doing something that was supposed to be the highlight of their day.  God embrace them in your loving arms, and give peace and strength to those who are left behind to make sense of the tragedy and continue on without them. Read more

Or so Fr. Longenecker seems to say.  Actually, he doesn’t say that and yet he does.  Like a good representative of the Faith, he points us to the teachings of the Bishops when it comes to voting rather than impose his opinions on us.  Read for yourself and decide. This election is a tough one.  If ever there was proof for traditional Christians that the GOP contains plenty of elements not the least bit interested in that old time religion,... Read more

Well it’s over.  Thank goodness.   And depending on what news outlets you watch, it was either a three ring circus followed by a convention filled with wonderful speakers surrounded by a little bit of dissension, or it was a bold convention with clashes between party members followed by a scandal ridden string of Machiavellis lifted up by a corrupt party machine. This morning, I wasn’t able to watch FOX long enough to see if they planned on covering last... Read more

The latest development in the abortion rights movement has been to embrace the practice with pride and joy.  I’ve said before that when it came to the torture scandal back in the days of Gitmo, the point that hit me hardest was that the US soldiers were laughing.  There’s something about doing evil.  It’s something else when we do evil and cheer, or laugh, or yuck it up, or pat ourselves on the back with pride and joy. It puts me in... Read more

I actually wait for Michael Flynn to comment on the news the way I used to wait for the ice cream truck to come to our neighborhood.  He has a knack for looking past the BS we’re willing to swallow for convenience.  In a nation of punditry over principles, little things like consistency and common sense take a back seat to whatever works at the moment.  In this mess, Mr. Flynn points out how easy it is for the media... Read more

So why the confusion?   Kudos to the Washington Post for clearing things up. For another good read on the reasoning that went behind pinning Orlando on anything but the obvious (which was the point of reference in my post title), The Imaginative Conservative has a fine piece here. Read more

After a day of some pretty heated debate where gay rights and religious rights might clash and when we should care, I thought it might be nice to return to the basics to lighten the mood, courtesy of the late, great Donald O’Connor.  This came to me as our youngest asked to watch it, which happens to be one of his favorite movies.  And if you haven’t seen Singin’ in the Rain, stop now and go watch it.  There’s just... Read more

Some are suggesting that Google has stacked the algorithm deck to ensure search results favor Democrats.  The shock. BTW, the conventions show that the idea of unbiased media is dead.   If I watch FOX News, I get the impression that the DNC has been a lumbering mess of division and partisanship rocked with scandal as Bernie supporters pull their own 68 Convention impersonation.  Over on CNN, it’s the greatest gather of the Spirit since Pentecost; the room where angels... Read more

So the buzz is about a Black Lives Matter organizer caught telling white people to move to the back of the line.  OK.  Snooze.  Yawn.  A couple takes on my part.  First, it could have been to make a point.  Remember the blue eye/brown eye exercise some of us were put through back in the 70s?   An exercise that was devised to show what prejudice was like.  This might have been a similar idea. On the off chance it wasn’t that, and... Read more
