Former American Idol contestant and Grammy-nominated gospel singer Mandisa remembers one Christmas when loneliness threatened to overcome her.
She was attending Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee, and didn’t have enough money to fly home for the holiday.
Instead of feeling depressed, the singer decided to spend Christmas day reading all the gospels so she could feel closer to Jesus. Ever since then, she’s been able to focus on the religious significance of the holiday without getting too distracted by shopping, parties, and other activities. It also gave her a new perspective on the sadness some people feel during Christmas-time.
On Christopher Closeup, Mandisa told program host Tony Rossi, “When we think about why we celebrate Christmas and what Jesus came for, tears [of sadness] can be turned into tears of joy…God wipes away every tear from our eyes, so that gives me hope and encouragement.”
May Christ’s light illuminate your life this Christmas.
A Child has been born for us…and He is named Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. (Isaiah 9:6)
Thank You, Jesus, for the precious gift of Yourself.
