Late Summer Projects

Late Summer Projects August 27, 2010

I’ve been entering into the world of embroidery, and I really like it! All the different stitches intrigue me, it’s like painting with thread. Here’s my current work in progress, it’s going to be a quilt block. It’s inspired by eastern European embroidery traditions, of which there are many. The Textile Blog is a great resource for inspiration on all things textile, including these images of old European embroidery.

Here’s some other things I’ve been working on, preserving the bounty and all that. So far I’ve got dilly beans and sandwich stackers. I’ve also got a crock of kimchee fermenting. I’m hoping to get a hold of a bushel of pickling cukembers and make some brined pickles with them, and then in a month, it’s saurkraut making time!
I’m going to be posting this print along with a bunch more this weekend. The paper is particularly great with this group, they’re all really neat machine images from my grandfather’s old Machinist Handbook. I’m really happy to be using such a neat resource for my art. It’s falling apart and it would have been so easy for it to just get dumped in the trash.
