So today I’d like to share another papercraft, this time with magazines. As an artist I love buying all those awesome arty magazines showing glossy pages of beautiful artwork. Somerset Studio, Martha Stewart Living and Cloth Paper Scissors are a few of my faves. Do you guys have any other faves I should be checking out? I’m chopping all these lovelies up today to make halloween bunting, and if you do too, make sure to check the backside so that... Read more

Moving forward with my plan to take over the world using only blockprints, I am now offering my blockprints in an awesome original art card form at the one and only Creative Wellness. Seriously, I’m very very excited, thanks to the super sweet Jessy, who is revamping their card selection to carry more local artists and products. Creative Wellness is an amazing place, an island of serenity and beauty in a rather ordinary office park. They offer massage, acupuncture, and... Read more

So I’ve been asked a couple of times how I manage to find the time for art, and it’s made me think about how I do what I do. I try to do something creative most days, or if I don’t have the time or the headspace, I prep for creative stuff, or scrounge stuff to art with, because I don’t exactly have a huge budget, timewise or financially, for art. So I thought I’d start trying to share some... Read more

In honor of Leah’s theme of Earth over at Creative Every Day I’ve been doing some paintings exploring earth and my connection to the the earth. I want to share one of my favorite meditation exercises that is so earthy and wonderful, called the Tree of Life Meditation. To practice it, sit comfortably and start by closing your eyes and breathing, letting yourself relax completly. Imagine yourself as a tree, growing roots downward into the dark, fertile earth, and branches... Read more

I participated in an upcoming new venue for artists in town, The Old Town Underground. Make sure to check out their site, it is so very very cool. I had a lot of fun and met some amazing people. I’m looking forward to working with them more and I’m really excited to be meeting some local artists! I took a few pics while I was there of some of the great stuff that caught my eye. Here’s a couple: Sometimes... Read more

I’m starting with the ending, showing you my final results. Lots of happy prints, plus I discovered the best and most fun way to clean up all the extra ink: Monoprints! I just smoosh paper directly on to the glass and presto! Interesting papers to do something with. Then I wipe the chopsticks I use to glop ink on the glass and rub it around with the brayer, and then smoosh! More monoprint happiness. Maybe I will print one of... Read more

We celebrated the equinox yesterday, the hinge of the season, as we go from the time when the day is longer than the night to the time when the night begins to rule the day. The girls helped me decorate the table, and we made harvest dollies out of corn husks. First I soaked the corn husks in warm water to soften them, and cut bunches of string into six inch pieces (or so) before Ailee got home from school:... Read more

I’ve been working on a whole bunch of new projects in the last couple of weeks, especially I’ve been putting one of my birthday presents to work! I got this awesome book all about dyeing without using any toxic chemicals, with natural plant materials. India Flint also has an amazing blog which is how I found her in the first place. I love her frank discussion of pre-treating fabric by making ash water, using milk, and saving your own urine!... Read more
