Dreaming of Democratic presidential tickets

Dreaming of Democratic presidential tickets

Sacajawea redux
Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA)

I’ve signed petitions encouraging Elizabeth Warren (the extremely liberal and rather blonde Massachusetts Democrat who is our only Native American senator) and Bernie Sanders (the Vermont socialist and senator who, although listed as Independent, caucuses — who could possibly have predicted it? — with the Democrats) to toss their hats into the ring for the Democratic presidential nomination.

I could go for an Elizabeth Warren ticket with Al Sharpton, say.  Or, maybe, Bernie Sanders with Jane Fonda, if she’s still up to it.  (She’s supposed to be quite fit, I believe.)

But now I’m thinking that, if Hillary Clinton can persuade NBC news anchor Brian Williams to join her as her vice presidential running mate on the Democratic ticket, I just might endorse her after all.

I’d already been struck by the fact that, when Ms. Clinton was born in 1947, her mother named her after Sir Edmund Hillary, the New Zealand beekeeper who would become world famous and even be knighted for his 1953 conquest of Mount Everest (with Tenzing Norgay).

She’s not quite up to her husband’s high standard — and, don’t forget, he was our “first black president” — but the Hillary-to-Hillary story is pretty impressive, and adding Brian Williams to the ticket could seal the deal.  For me, anyway.
