Matthew 7:12

“So whatever you wish that men would do to you, do so to them; for this is the law and the prophets.”

Luke 6:31

“And as you wish that men would do to you, do so to them.”

One of the most famous passages in all of scripture.  One of the most attractive moral principles ever formulated.

Very closely parallel sayings exist in the scriptural texts of other religions around the world (http://www.religioustolerance.org/reciproc2.htm) and in the writings of various other religious thinkers and philosophers (http://www.religioustolerance.org/reciproc3.htm).

The virtually universal recognition of the Golden Rule suggests that we ought, perhaps, to pay serious attention to it.
