During the French Revolution, it was transformed for a time into the Temple of the Goddess of Reason. Is it heading, perhaps, toward yet another religious conversion?

In 1918 and in 1922, Oswald Spengler published his once very famous two-volume work Der Untergang des Abendlandes (“The Decline of the West”).  It was enormously influential for a time.  Now it’s mostly forgotten.  Should it have been?  Was it merely premature?
