I’m far from a political supporter of Harry Reid

I’m far from a political supporter of Harry Reid April 6, 2015

Harry Reid and President Monson
Harry Reid joins with President Thomas S. Monson, Elder Dallin H. Oaks, and an unnamed White House staffer in presenting President Obama with his family tree as a gift from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

And I think his complacent satisfaction about his lie regarding Mitt Romney’s taxes is utterly shameful.

But this is grotesquely inappropriate and, really, quite disgusting:

My hope is that it will draw few if any signatures from active, believing Latter-day Saints.

I dislike it for a whole host of reasons, but here’s a small one of them:  Imagine bishops, stake presidents, and General Authorities being bombarded by petitions from Faction X to excommunicate somebody from Faction Y, and Faction Y reciprocating with petitions to excommunicate a leader of Faction X.

Revenge!  Strife!  Anger!  Political pressure!  Quests for power!

If your goal is to divide the Kingdom in the manner that the Book of Mormon repeatedly warns us against, I can think of few more efficient tools.

This petition, which I really do hope will be received with the disdain and disapproval that it richly deserves, seeks to do the work of the Devil, not the work of the Lord.
