Notwithstanding denials on every side, I’m having a difficult time seeing the non-attendance of these four Arab leaders at Mr. Obama’s summit as anything other than the snub it seems so obviously to be.
And I agree that appointing the non-royal former ambassador to the United States Adel al-Jubeir as the Kingdom’s foreign minister sends an interesting message — considering that, not very long ago, he was the object of an Iranian-sponsored assassination plot.
Incidentally, just a note: Adel al-Jubeir speaks stunningly good American-accented English. When I first heard him, he wasn’t yet the ambassador. I was blown away at what a good spokesman he was for Saudi Arabia in the United States. Rather like a Saudi answer to Benyamin Netanyahu.
