Of course, the REAL fall of the Roman Empire came only in AD 1453, when the Ottoman Turks, under Mehmet II (“the Conqueror”), used gunpowder and artillery to breach the famous massive double Theodosian Walls (τείχος Θεοδοσιακόν) that had been built in the AD 400s in order to extend the protected area of Constantinople (or “Nova Roma:) westward beyond the original Constantinian walls of a century earlier.
