I listened to Jesse Watters on Fox’s The Five about an hour ago.
I’ve always liked that program, and have enjoyed Watters.
Increasingly, though, I’m seeing ostensibly conservative people abandoning their principles, and I would be lying if I were to say that the sight hasn’t left me horrified and disheartened
Watters was scornful of the National Review writers and their objections to Donald Trump.
This country, he said, is in terrible shape, and people want a strong leader to fix it.
Dismissing their concerns about Trump’s wholesale, gross, and recent contradictions of bedrock conservative principles, he said, more or less in these words, “You wanna know the principle that really matters? Being able to fill a 40,000-seat stadium on a weeknight!”
Sigh.
The parallels virtually force themselves on anybody who takes history seriously.
