Even if you haven’t been keeping up with my little project here, even if you have no intention of doing so, take two or three minutes and renew your acquaintance with today’s reading, 2 Nephi 12, which is a citation (with slight but perhaps significant variation) of Isaiah 2.  (It may also be significant that the Book of Mormon never cites Isaiah 1, which many scholars believe is an “introduction” to the book of Isaiah that was attached to it only later.)

 

Isaiah’s remarkable poetic eloquence is on full display here, with this chapter’s powerful images of an eschatological temple (“the mountain of the Lord’s house”) and of millennial peace.  And his reminders of the weakness and insignificance of mortal humans are at least as relevant today as they were in his time:

 

“Cease ye from man, whose breath is in his nostrils; for wherein is he to be accounted of?”
