I’m actually staying on the drier side of the island, where it’s more consistently sunny but also considerably less verdant. Still, it’s difficult to feel deeply pessimistic in a place like this. However, if I think very much about the current presidential campaign — alas! — I can manage it.

I’m considerably more positive toward Marco Rubio than Dr. Sowell is, but, overall, I agree with him.  I certainly agree with him, given the challenges that we face, in his judgment that the presidential campaign thus far — especially on the Republican side — has been dangerously irresponsible and frivolous.

 

And I fear that it may already be too late for us to avoid looming electoral and national disaster.
