Many have pointed to Mr. Donald Trump’s recently offered list of conservative/libertarian judges — he said that he would probably consider people like these (or, ominously, “others”) when nominating someone to fill a vacancy on the Supreme Court — as evidence that he would be much better in the White House than Hillary Clinton.
Maybe.
On that particular point.
In this article, though, a number of leading legal scholars, many of them quite prominent in conservative and libertarian circles, express deep concerns about what Mr. Trump’s elevation to the presidency might mean for America precisely in the area of judicial nominations and the rule of law.
They mention specific issues. They cite particular statements.
These are serious matters. I share their concerns.
And I’m tired of Trump supporters responding to such concerns by simply yelling “Trump 2016!” and “Make America great again!” and “If you don’t support Trump you’re voting for Hillary!”
Thoughtlessness is what has given us Clinton/Trump in the first place. It’s done enough damage already.
