Venezuela and the glories of democratic socialism

Ah, socialism!
There’s no really good reason why people in Venezuela should be starving, or why, now, they should be enslaved.  (Wikimedia Commons)

You may or may not have heard, but socialism has furnished us with yet another illustrative example of government-induced starvation, now capped off with the introduction of forced-labor camps:

“Venezuela Reaches the End of the Road to Serfdom”

“Only a Presidential Referendum Can Save Venezuela from Its Humanitarian Crisis”

It’s important, though, to keep trying.  The loss of freedom, repeated economic failure, and, sometimes, millions of dead– these mean nothing.  As Comrade Stalin liked to say, if you’re making an omelet, you have to break a few eggs.  Or, in another of his famously charming bon mots, “The death of one man is a tragedy; the death of millions is a statistic.”
