I’m very disappointed by Senator Ted Cruz’s decision to endorse Mr. Donald J. Trump for the presidency of the United States of America:

“Cruz: Yeah, I’ll Vote for Trump”

“Awkward . . . “

Leaving aside all of the many, many political and other problems with Mr. Trump, I can tell you this:  I would never endorse a man who had publicly mocked the appearance of my wife and repeatedly accused my father of complicity in the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, a man who has neither retracted those statements nor apologized for them.  I would never endorse a man who, following on the heels of his successful exploitation of the silly “birther” claim that Barack Obama is a Kenyan-born Muslim (a claim that, only hours ago, in one of the most shameless displays of brazen chutzpah that I’ve ever seen, he blamed on Hillary Clinton and boasted of having personally refuted), deployed that same successful weapon against me, ostentatiously wondering aloud whether I even qualified as eligible for the office I sought.

I simply wouldn’t do it.  Never.  Ever.  Worlds without end.

To do so would require a lack of self-respect and a degree of servility of which I simply don’t believe I’m capable.  (I certainly hope that I’m not.)
