I can understand, and am not unsympathetic to, Daniel Pipes’s reasoning on burqas, above.

 

From what I’ve seen of them, though, it doesn’t seem to apply to burkinis, which — at least in the ones that I’ve seen photos of — don’t appear to permit any substantial room for hiding weapons or explosives.  (No more than there would be in a more typical dress or pantsuit.)

Meanwhile, here’s an interesting article about the burkini debate and attendant issues in France.
