In many third-world countries, things haven’t changed much since 1912 and it’s still the role of women and girls to fetch and carry water for cooking and drinking — often over considerable distances via rather difficult paths.

This article would have caught my attention anyway, but I was pleased to notice its mention of Jay Henrie.  He’s a neighbor, and the former bishop of our ward.  He’s also a retired engineer, and he and his wife (our former Relief Society president) have been set apart as a service couple.  They’ve been traveling the world for the past couple of years working on clean-water projects for the Church:

I’m proud of them, and I’m proud of what the Church is doing in this (and other) regards.
