In this article, a writer for the New York Times discovers that Salt Lake City is actually a pretty decent place.

I confess, though, to some bemusement at the fact that many travel writers, as well as others, seem to really believe that brain-modifying chemical assistance is necessary in order to have a good night life.

To me, good food, good company, good music, and good theater — with the occasional film thrown in — are quite enough.  (But then, I generally think that a good book is enough.)

Speaking of which, we recently attended a performance of See How They Run at the Hale Center Theater in Orem (light and forgettable fluff, but quite funny) and a performance of Beauty and the Beast at the Hale Centre Theatre in West Valley City.  I needed no alcohol to enjoy them.

And there is an abundance of dance here, and sports, and all sorts of other good stuff for all interests.

But, yes, the Red Iguana is quite good.  We sometimes eat there when we’re in the area.  However, when we go to the Hale in West Valley we typically have dinner with a friend at the Market Street Grill in South Jordan.  Really excellent seafood.  (More often, and almost always before we attend the opera or the symphony, we visit the Market Street Grill downtown.)  I wish we had a Market Street Grill in Utah Valley!

And today I had lunch with several old friends and comrades in arms — including two former Italian missionaries (one of whom returned a few years back to preside over the mission in Milan) at Oregano Italian Kitchen in downtown Provo.
