“Why does global Mormonism look like Utah Mormonism?”

“Why does global Mormonism look like Utah Mormonism?”

Africa's second temple, I think.
The Accra Ghana Temple by night (LDS Media Library)

I’ve chafed more than a little over the years under correlation and correlated curriculum, and I’ve been unhappy on more than a few occasions about the dominance of Wasatch Front sensibilities, customs, and aesthetics in Church units well beyond Utah.

That said, I’m not a fan of Gina Colvin’s approach to Mormonism.  (Nor, in fairness, is she a fan of mine.  I commented once on her blog, responding to a criticism of me; she deleted the comment.)

But I think that some of my blog’s readers might find this interview of interest:

Incidentally, the still-relatively-recent call of three white Utah-resident apostles draws negative comment in the lead-in to the interview.  (The underlying assumption that apostles are chosen purely by human decision rather than by divine revelation is very obvious.)  For what it’s worth, I commented briefly on those calls in a blog entry that I posted at the time.  It can be found here.
