Some extreme critics of Mormonism in particular and of religious faith more generally think that the world would be a much better place without them.

That’s debatable, to say the least of it.

Here are two recent examples of good being done by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, from among literally thousands of instances that might be cited:

“What the Peruvian First Lady Said About Mormons After They Donated 200+ Tons of Supplies to Flood Victims”

“New LDS pilot programs bring education to Mormon children in island nations”

Some critics of Mormonism allow that it does some good, but not enough.

Perhaps they themselves are doing absolutely spectacular things.  If so, more power to them!  Color me skeptical, though.  On the whole, studies seem to indicate that, while secular types may talk a lot about helping the poor and the needy and working for a better world, it’s those benighted religious people, on the whole, who do the bulk of the heavy lifting.  (On which, see here and here.)
