At night, in Grindelwald, after very full days and after evenings spent out on our patio watching the sunlight dim and then disappear on the Eiger Nordwand, and after I’d done a bit of blogging and other writing, my wife and I took to binge-watching an episode or three every night of Designated Survivor on my computer. (I was briefly a 24 addict, too.)

So it was fun to see posters around Interlaken and Lauterbrunnen and Grindelwald itself advertising, of all things, an International Trucker & Country Festival, 23-25 June — especially one that includes Kiefer Sutherland as one of the guest artists:

Line dancing! 1400 trucks! Swiss men and women wearing cowboy hats in the middle of the Alps!
I hadn’t realized that this Festival has been going on since, I think, 1994. I would have found it virtually unthinkable back in the 1300s, when I served in Interlaken and Switzerland as a missionary. Funny!
Unfortunately, we’ll miss it.
