An article in the Deseret News from that newspaper’s extremely interesting young writer on film history:
So far, Wonder Woman has been getting very good reviews from both critics and the public. We’ll see whether that trend holds up.
There’ve been some really amusing other responses, too. One of my sons tells me, for instance, that some have complained that Gal Gadot simply isn’t credible as a warrior. After all, she’s an Israeli model. But, ironically, she’s also an Israeli soldier.
Which has led Lebanon to embarrass itself by banning the film.
If Wonder Woman does well at the box office, that could be an important moment for female leads in Hollywood. When movies starring men fail, their failure is written off as unfortunate. But when movies with female leads have failed, the response, quite often, has been to conclude that, well, women just can’t carry major films.
