Sowing seeds for an angry God

I have to admit that I’ve met more than a few devotees of this angry God — almost all of them, if indeed not every one of them, Evangelical Protestants.

Their religion seems to be about exclusion and hate and superiority and announcing what God loathes and who (almost always including Mormons but sometimes also Catholics and Arminians and Muslims and Hindus and so forth) is going to hell.

I’ve told the story before of a lunchtime conversation that I had, many years ago, with a Baptist pastor and his wife.  (Louis Midgley and Bill Hamblin were also there.)

“What about those who have never heard?”

If this were really the “good news” of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, I would have no interest whatever in it.
