I was very pleased to be able to attend the premiere, last night, of the new Lee Groberg/Mark Goodman film American Prophet, about Joseph Smith.

It was very powerful.  And the narration, by the late Gregory Peck — something of a miracle itself, in a way — was an added benefit.

My wife and I have worked with Mark Goodman, Russell Richins, and James Jordan, all of whom were involved with American Prophet, on the Interpreter Foundation’s film Robert Cundick: A Sacred Service of Music and for other projects, including a week of onsite interviews in and around Historic Kirtland Village, Ohio, about a year ago.  Which is to say that more good stuff is coming.  And we’re now in the process of putting something really big together with their help.  I’ll probably have more to say on that in the next few months.  Suffice it to say that I’m excited — nay, passionate — about what we’re working on right now.  (And that major donations would really, really help.  If you’re interested, if you see the power that films like this can have, please contact me.  I’ll be happy to discuss our new project with you.)

In the meantime, American Prophet has now been released by WETA, the PBS station in the Washington DC market, to PBS stations nationwide, and they will be making decisions about whether to air it.  I encourage all of you at there to contact your local PBS stations, to tell them that you would like to see American Prophet shown in your area.  Please pass this on to others, as well.  Such messages can have a real impact.

On another topic:

I like to accumulate links about all of the evil things that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is doing, since I’m reliably informed by several critics that the Church is a malignant force in a world that would be much better off without it.

Here are a few links that will help you see how bad the situation is:

The rapid succession of natural disasters that has recently been hammering Texas, Florida, Mexico, and the Caribbean is straining humanitarian resources.  But we can help:
