Perhaps they’re actually all Republican Evangelicals just MASQUERADING as Progressives?

But I thought it was only those loons on the political and religious Right who hated and feared science!
Oregon is one of the least religious states in the Union, and Portland is one of America’s least religious cities. Oregon is also, as it happens, one of America’s most politically liberal states, and Portland is among the nation’s most liberal cities.
I think it’s time — urgently, desperately! — for some more mockery of the Republican and conservative Christian war against science.
I’m reminded, for some reason, of a J. Golden Kimball story. He was apparently trying to stress the importance of people getting to know each other well before they marry. It seems that a man fell in love with a girl’s beautiful singing voice and decided to marry her on that basis, without knowing much about her at all. So, in a short time, they were married. The very first morning after their wedding, he woke up and looked over at his new wife. She had curlers in her hair, no make-up, and, frankly, looked really bad. He gazed at her for a while, with mounting horror. Then he cried out, “Sing, for hell’s sake! Sing!”
Now, I expect to be hammered for sexism and, of course, for misogyny because I posted that J. Golden story. But it seems to me to fit the Portland situation rather well, because I can imagine that at least a few of those who like to mock religious and political conservatives for their supposed hostility to science might be suffering from a bit of cognitive dissonance in the light of the link I’ve given, and that they’ll be crying out for reassurance.
Here’s a little piece of mockery directed at Progressive Portland that won’t help them much:

I’ve shared it before, but it’s a classic.
