“Is Mormonism Christian?”

Here’s an interesting 2008 exchange — or, at least, a pair of articles that appeared beside one another — that you may have missed when it appeared in the estimable monthly magazine First Things:

Gerald McDermott, the Protestant voice, is, or at least was at the time, a professor at Roanoke College in Virginia.

The Mormon voice was provided by my long-time friend Elder Bruce D. Porter, of the First Quorum of the Seventy, a former academic (Ph.D., Harvard) who is currently living in Moscow, Russia, where he presides over that area of the Church.
