The morning session of the two-day FairMormon conference, which began today, featured presentations in English (with simultaneous German translation) by Terryl Givens, Fiona Givens, and Sharon Eubank, along with opening remarks by the stake president of Darmstadt and Elder Axel Leimer of the Seventy. I’ve already posted a couple of short notes from it.
The afternoon session consisted of three presentations in German (with simultaneous English translation).
The first, by Rene Krywult of Vienna, focused on the ordinance of baptism as it’s viewed in various mainstream Christian traditions and by Latter-day Saints. This brought him also to a discussion of the reasons given for the decision of some denominations not to recognize LDS baptisms as valid — thus requiring that converts from Mormonism be “re”-baptized.
We’re now enjoying Folkhard Konietz, who’s addressing the treatment of Joseph Smith’s polygamy in the German media in the past year or two. He’s doing a really good, meticulous job thus far.
Of the second speaker, whose remarks were a grotesque assault upon both sound logic and the German language, the less said the better.
