Mia Love official congressional portrait
It took the support of a lot of conservative Utah Mormons, including mine, to send Mia Love (R-UT) to Congress last year.

One of the things notably absent from this article by Kate Kelly is any conviction of the truth of Mormon claims, or of the unique value of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  Quite the contrary:

She seems uninterested in truth claims, or even in what mainstream Mormons believe to be supernatural power and divine authority connected with priesthood, but is focused, rather, on status and practical “political” power within an earthly organization.

Seen retrospectively, I think one could argue that the sentiments she expresses don’t make the decision to excommunicate her look unreasonable.  (And please, before you accuse me of being heartless, note that she herself doesn’t seem very upset by it, claimed to be quite happy about it three months ago, and didn’t seem profoundly upset by it even at the time.)
