My indispensable friend Ralph Hancock calls our attention to words from October 1972 general conference that seem eerily relevant to our situation today:

A Warning against Wolves and Delusions among the Saints – October 1972 General Conference, Session 5 (Priesthood Session)

Some complain that the basic messages at general conference are so often repeated.  Could that possibly be because we’re continually tempted by the same falsehoods and the same wrong turns, generation after generation after generation?

My readings in history and literature (limited though they are) haven’t convinced me that we glorious moderns have discovered a whole lot of new sins, errors, and temptations, let alone that we’ve somehow risen above the usual list.  Laziness, greed, lust, ambition, pride and arrogance, selfishness, hatred, unkindness, cruelty, thoughtlessness, shortsidedness — the roll call of human error remains fairly constant.
