Will Mr. Donald Trump turn out to be a pathetic loser, like those he loves to mock? 2016-06-11T14:27:40-06:00

What has been, up to now, Mr. Donald Trump’s favorite poll shows him falling significantly behind Hillary Clinton:

Now, it’s possible that Mr. Trump could still win.  Or, to put it more accurately, that he could fail to lose.

Hillary Clinton is a terrible candidate.  She’s uncharismatic, cynical, and not overly likable, and there are a host of issues following her (e.g., the Clinton Foundation money machine, her treatment of her husband’s various girlfriends and sexual assault victims, her absurdly lucrative speaking career, her combat experiences as First Lady, the miracle of the cattle futures, Whitewater, her email scandal, and so on and so forth).  So it’s possible that she’ll self destruct.  In fact, she may yet face serious legal difficulties — although many Democrats say that they’ll still support her even if she’s indicted as a felon.

If Hillary is indicted and if her candidacy collapses, Mr. Trump could gain possession of our nation’s nuclear codes as the least hated and unpopular major-party candidate.

But the likelihood is that his will be a defeat of absolutely historic dimensions.

The major question is, How serious and how permanent will be the damage to the Republican Party?
