Trump’s Mormon Problem

I love the article’s last paragraph.

By the way, with this new fellow, Evan McMullin, entering the presidential race as a kind of third-party candidate, some have noticed that he’s a Latter-day Saint.

And the reaction hasn’t always been positive.  Over on the Breitbart website, which has been an absolutely party-line Trumpist outlet for many months now, some of the Trumpist commenters have denounced the Mormon cult, mocked Mormon underwear, expressed a desire to see Utah expelled from the Union, and vowed that, when the Leader comes to power, all federal spending in Utah will end.  The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, more than one of them said, should be punished for its opposition to the Leader.  Mormons need to be taught a lesson.

The sooner this election is over, the better I’ll feel.

Of course, it’s likely already “over” in a metaphorical sense.  I’m talking literally.  About mid-November.

But then, all the divisiveness and the rage and the insults and the talk of “rigged” elections and the nasty political discourse may not simply go away when the Leader loses the election.  It could even become worse.  Trumpulism, I fear, is a toxic disease that we may have to live with for a very long time.
