“Our opponents, the media and the whole world will soon see as we begin to take further actions, that the powers of the president to protect our country are very substantial and will not be questioned.”
–Senior White House policy advisor Stephen Miller
(See here.)
I was so impressed by Mr. Miller’s declaration that I’ve been inspired to translate it back into something like its original German:
“Unsere Gegner, der Mediensektor, und die ganze Welt werden bald sehen, sobald wir weitere Maßnahmen treffen, daß die Befugnisse des Präsidenten sehr kräftig sind und daß sie nicht in Frage gestellt werden.”
In other (related) news, according to one recent poll, 51% of Trump supporters think that Mr. Trump should personally be able to overturn judicial decisions with which he disagrees. 33% of Trump supporters disagree, still preferring the quaint old notions of the framers of the Constitution of the United States of America. What about the other 16%? Who knows? Maybe they just don’t really much care.
This way, folks, lies tyranny.
And [Elijah] said to his servant, Go up now, look toward the sea. And he went up, and looked, and said, There is nothing. And he said, Go again seven times.
And it came to pass at the seventh time, that he said, Behold, there ariseth a little cloud out of the sea, like a man’s hand. And he said, Go up, say unto Ahab, Prepare thy chariot, and get thee down, that the rain stop thee not. (1 Kings 18:43-44)
