A pretty good day

A pretty good day

1.

I’ve been serving on a fairly demanding University committee this year.  Today, we finished our work for the semester.  Things won’t pick up again, I think, until fall term.  Hallelujah!

We just returned from a really good production of Peter and the Starcatcher at the Hale Center Theater in Orem.  I’m not likely to confuse it with Jean-Paul Sartre or Ingmar Bergman, but it’s really fun and the cast did an excellent job.

And BYU’s Middle Eastern Texts Initiative (METI), which I conceived and founded and which I directed until a few years ago — but from which I’m now in enforced exile — has published a new dual-language Arabic/English edition of the Twenty Chapters of Dawud al-Muqammas.  There’s bittersweet satisfaction in that.  The two copies that METI is obliged to send to me were waiting at my office today.  There’s bittersweet satisfaction in that, too.

So, on the whole, a pretty good day.
