When I began to understand the extent of Donald Trump’s intellectual limitations and emotional vulnerabilities, I became deeply concerned.  Couple those limitations and vulnerabilities with Mr. Trump’s admiration for (and marked unwillingness to criticize) Vladimir Putin and with Mr. Putin’s own competence, ambition, and opportunism, and . . .  Well, let me say that I’m no less concerned today than I was a year ago.

I say this as a long-standing conservative who still remembers the resolve of Barry Goldwater and Ronald Reagan and others (including classical Democrats like John F. Kennedy) to oppose Russian expansionism.  I’ve awakened, it seems, in a brave new world.
