There’s a Mormon angle to this next story, as well as a political one:
CNN: “The real race to watch in Utah this November is not Mitt Romney’s — it’s Mia Love’s”
I agree. Come November, Governor Romney will almost certainly — barring some unforeseen event — become Senator-Elect Romney. Which pleases me no end. But I’m concerned about Representative Love, who is running for reelection in a district that is quite capable of electing Democrats. And Ben McAdams is a serious challenger who isn’t lacking in good qualities. It shouldn’t be forgotten that he would be one more vote for Nancy Pelosi and the increasingly leftward-trending Democrats.

Good grief. Do we really need to go through this vile nonsense again? Are there enough of those old Nazi-era yellow stars bearing the term Jude (“Jew”) that we can simply recycle them for the next go-around?

Here are a couple of items that go deeper than partisan politics:
“The Left is CONDEMNING Civility … Seriously!”
The second, by the great (and courageous) Christina Hoff Sommers, will be of interest to any and all parents of boys. One of my own sons had an experience rather like one that she recounts: As a class creative writing assignment, when he was very young, he wrote a piece about destroying his school. Nobody was killed. He made sure that everyone was out of the buildings before his fiendish little saboteurs leveled the place to the ground.
The story was meant to be comical, and it was. It was pretty funny. And it was nowhere near as violent as the parody of the “Battle Hymn of the Republic” — “The Burning of the School” — that my friends and I sang when I was very young and that, so Wikipedia says, has long been popular with schoolkids (mostly boys, I expect) across the United States and in parts of the United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia. Moreover, this particular son of mine is now and has always been an exceptionally gentle, kind, sociable boy. But the teacher and the school administration reacted as if he were some sort of serial killer, and I didn’t find that very funny.
