Some resources for a Sunday at home

Some resources for a Sunday at home 2020-03-22T20:59:13-06:00

Trumpetless SLC Moroni
Christopher Jay Campbell shared this image, taken after this week’s Utah earthquake detached the trumpet from the angel’s hand.  It was created by Jared Tanner, and I hope that it’s okay for me to share it further.  I just thought, what with pestilence, earthquakes, and a plague of locusts in the news, this might be appropriate.

Here are two new items on the website of the Interpreter Foundation:

“Teachings and Testimony of the First Vision: A Missionary Receives a Testimony of the First Vision, As told by former Presiding Bishop Merrill J. Bateman, and a few other like experiences: Part 17 of a Series Compiled by Dennis B. Horne”

“Jacob 2: Economics, Plural Marriage, and the New World”

A Video Supplement for Come, Follow Me Book of Mormon Lesson 11: Be Reconciled unto God through the Atonement of Christ (Jacob 1-4)

For those of you who would have been attending sacrament meeting and other services of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints tomorrow but who will now be staying at home yet again, here are some new resources:

“Book of Mormon Videos: First of 8 new videos released today”

King Benjamin Addresses His People | Mosiah 1-5 | Book of Mormon”

Abinadi Testifies of Jesus Christ | Mosiah 11-18 | Book of Mormon”

And if you still haven’t seen them, or if you haven’t see them for a long time, or if members of your family haven’t seen them — or even if you’re familiar with them — you might find these two older films of considerable value and interest.  I earnestly recommend them to your attention.  Just close your eyes and block your ears when I come on:

Journey of Faith: The Old World

Journey of Faith: The New World

But let’s not forget the critics of the Church!  After all, they have needs, too.

For those who are still zealously gathering materials for their personal Christopher Hitchens Memorial “How Religion Poisons Everything” Files — and I know for certain that there are some of you still out there, even in these distracting times of disease, earthquake, economic chaos, and locust swarms — I humbly offer the following as a public service:

“Relief Society in Action, March 20, 2020”

(I especially enjoyed the two short videos.)

“COVID-19: La Iglesia facilita uno de sus edificios en San Antonio, Chile, para ser usado como hospital de campaña: Se instalarán camas para pacientes con problemas respiratorios que no puedan cumplir cuarentena en su domicilio”

“Why BYU-Pathway virtual gatherings are a reminder of the foresight of the Lord”
