“Only the best and most serious people”

The devout Mr. Trump
Somebody modified what was once a Harold N. Anderson painting, but I haven’t been able to find out who produced this in order to ask permission to use it. Of course, I don’t know that anybody received permission from the late Harold N. Anderson, either.

After earning a law degree and an MBA at Harvard in 1977, Mitt Romney began his highly successful pre-Olympics and pre-political career in the private business sector as a management consult at, and eventually as the chief executive officer of, Boston’s famous management consultancy firm Bain & Company.  Then, after co-founding it in 1984, he served as the first chief executive officer of the distinct legendary spin-off Bain Capital firm in Boston, which has invested in or acquired hundreds of companies — including AMC Theatres, Artisan Entertainment, Aspen Education Group, Brookstone, Burger King, Burlington Coat Factory, Canada Goose, DIC Entertainment, Domino’s Pizza, DoubleClick, Dunkin’ Donuts, D&M Holdings, Guitar Center, Hospital Corporation of America (HCA), iHeartMedia, KB Toys, Sealy, Sports Authority, Staples, Toys “R” Us, Warner Music Group, Fingerhut,The Weather Channel, and Apple Leisure Group, which includes AMResorts and Apple Vacations.  Eventually, of course, Mr. Romney left Bain Capital in order to turn the crisis-ridden, corrupt, and mismanaged 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics around and, thereafter, to serve as governor of Massachusetts.

President Donald J. Trump, the great leader of our nation, has now invited most of the members of the United States Senate to join a new non-partisan panel to advise the federal government on reopening the country as it begins — we hope! — to emerge from the coronavirus pandemic.  The “Opening Up America Again Congressional Group” includes 52 of the 53 Republican senators, as well as twelve Democrats (all of whom voted to impeach our Dear Leader).  It does not include Mitt Romney.  Mitt Romney was not invited to join the group:

USA Today:  “Sen. Mitt Romney was the only GOP senator not invited on Trump’s new coronavirus advisory group”

Fox News:  “Trump snubs Romney by inviting every other GOP senator to council on restarting economy amid coronavirus”

Deseret News:  “Trump invites all GOP senators to join economic recovery group — except Mitt Romney”

And here’s something from an obvious traitor who hates our great country and who should be locked up:

Donald Trump’s Pettiness Knows No Bounds, Mitt Romney Edition: If he can’t be himself—childish, narcissistic, ignorant— during a global health crisis, when can he?”

As a candidate, Donald Trump famously promised that, if elected, he’d “surround myself only with the best and most serious people” — adding: “We want top-of-the-line professionals.”  He’s keeping his campaign promises!  Clearly, Senator Romney lacks the real-world business experience and the financial and economic expertise to be of any use to the country in a time like this.  President Trump, who was wise and good and right to exclude Mr. Romney, recognized that, alone among the Senate’s Republicans and unlike a dozen Senate Democrats, the man had nothing relevant to contribute.

I’ve been exhorted to see the good in Mr. Donald J. Trump, to recognize that he is a great president who deeply loves our country, is not motivated by petty personal pique and ego, and only cares, entirely selflessly, about making America great again.

I’m trying.

I was disappointed, a couple of days ago, to see about twenty teenagers frolicking together in a park near my home.  They were very close together and quite obviously unconcerned, not only about contracting the novel coronavirus themselves but about transmitting it to their siblings, parents, grandparents, other friends, and neighbors.  I believe that the new descriptor for such teens is “Covidiot.”

I was also disappointed to read the thoughts on COVID-19 of Bill Bennett, a public figure for whom I once had enormous respect:

“The Absurd Case Against the Coronavirus Lockdown: Of course we should want to open the economy, but the case against initial shutdowns is unpersuasive.”

“Cowardice Isn’t Driving the American Response to COVID-19: Cowardice Isn’t Driving the American Response to COVID-19”

In the end, I expect that the cure for COVID-19 will turn out to be a tablespoon of covfefe, taken three times daily before meals.  Isn’t it obvious?
